It's very capricious and up to my whim, as "the 'rents" is still technically ok when discussing parents, though, "Amstel" for "Amstel Light" will speedily usher you towards synecdouchebaggery, as would, "Dude, let's go get some burgers at (Ruby) Tuesdays!"
