Google Analytics seems to be more of a businessperson’s tracking tool, and thus fairly useless to someone like me, with a microscopic website and a desire mostly just to know what sort of amusing Google search strings lead people here.
So I’m trying Performancing Metrics now, instead. I’ll be sure to let you know how […]

Can’t… breathe…

I knew hilzoy at Obsidian Wings was wicked smaht, not to mention eloquent, but I had not realized that she also practices Photoshop Comedy at the Olympic level.

The post on English Russia says this jet has “thrust vectoring” technology, which I can only assume means that in addition to your normal aerodynamic wings and foils and what-have-you, it has some sort of spaceship-like steering jets. Planes shouldn’t do what this pilot is making this plane do.

I mean, holy shit.

Bomb of Gilead

zuzu:
Had that bomb been found outside a post office or a school, the headlines would have been hysterically running on about ZOMG TERRORISM TERRORISM IS AL QAEDA INVOLVED? And the right-wing warbloggers would be pissing their pants and hyperventilating about profiling Arabs and banning Muslims from public life and dhimmitude and how if they had […]

Ellis wrote a novel.  Publisher’s weekly interviewed him:
PW Comics Week: Did you conceive of the idea for Crooked Little Vein and then seek out a publisher, or did they pursue you? Why choose this particular story for your first novel, and why now?
Warren Ellis: Actually, I kind of inherited a literary agent when I changed […]

Matt Taibbi kinda reminds me of Spider Jerusalem, though perhaps less tenderhearted. Either way, I like his writing, and I like that he’s the rare sort of American journalist who actually does aim to afflict the comfortable. He lived in Russia during the ’90s, and his obituary for Boris Yeltsin is my favorite […]

Hee hee hee!

Why is this so much fun?
It even gets easier as the roll gets smaller!

Oh, fuck THAT.

Tom, a frequent commenter here, sent me a link to this article.  What it describes is not so cool, and I’m disinclined to keep using sitemeter.
Y’all may want to clear out your cookies, and I apologize for my inadvertent part in giving your browser social diseases.
I’ve switched to Google Analytics; we’ll see how that goes.

Power and its uses

I only aim at the powerful. When satire is aimed at the powerless, it is not only cruel - it’s vulgar.
-Molly Ivins
I am an adherent of the Taoist principle of wu wei — doing nothing effectively — and so I have not written about Don Imus finally making one more racist, sexist crack than the […]

Researchers Decode T Rex Genetic Material
Researchers have decoded genetic material from a 68 million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex, an unprecedented step once thought impossible.
“The door just opens up to a whole avenue of research that involves anything extinct,” said Matthew T. Carrano, curator of dinosaurs at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.
There are those of contrarian […]

No longer the greatest living American

Kurt Vonnegut’s died.
What would Queen Victoria really feel in the presence of what she had declared to be obscenities? That her power to intimidate was being attacked ever so slightly, far, far from its center, was being attacked where it could not matter much as yet — was being attacked way out on the […]

Paul Begala and James Carville - they’re the people Atrios was put on this earth to kill.

Code of Conduct

The best way to combat entitlement and hatred is obviously to ask everyone to promise not to express it anymore. Or if you do express it, you should put a badge on your blog that says “Watch out! I’m a loose cannon!” Or something. In the spirit of transparency and civility, […]
